High Five for Friday: Summer Reading and a Career Change!

Friday, June 28th, 2013

It’s Friday again! Lately I feel like all I do is blink and a whole week has gone by. Linking up with Lauren again for High Five for Friday!

1. I just wrapped up this series with one of the kids I nanny. I used to LOVE the Oz books when I was young. It’s been so fun reading all 14 of them again! It does not feel like work.

2. No picture for this, but this week I officially made the decision that I am going to go back to school to become a nurse! More on this later.

3. A direct consequence of item #2 – Organic Chemistry and Nutrition on my summer reading list! At least summer quarter is short – only 7 weeks. I can handle that.

This ridiculous video. This little video has gone viral among my family members…

5. 2 articles from Buzzfeed that made me laugh because I relate so well!

How was your week? I’m looking forward to some time to rest, study and prepare for another busy one next week. Hope you have a great weekend!!

Friday Post: Sunshine, Bluegrass and Ray Bans

Friday, June 21st, 2013

It’s time for another High Five for Friday post. Here are five moments from my past week!

1. It is pouring down rain as I type this, but earlier this week we had some hints of early summer days with sunshine and birdsong. I’m ready for more!

2. I thoroughly enjoyed making a huge pile of most of my chemistry notes/labs/flashcards and tossing them. Hooray for the end of the quarter!

3. Bluegrass music at Green Lake.

4. Beautiful twilight (and ducks) at Green Lake. This is why I love running here!

5. Me, my brother and our Ray Bans.

How was your week? I’d love to hear about it!

High Five for Friday! Star Trek, Blizzards and Vines.

Friday, May 24th, 2013

Happy Friday everyone! I’m linking up again with Lauren from for another H5FF post.

Here are five moments from this past week:

Last Friday I saw Star Trek with my friend Holly. I really liked it. I don’t know a lot about Star Trek, but I still felt pulled in by the story. I thought it was a nice mix of action and personality. Benedict Cumberbatch was supreme as a bad guy…I mostly know him from Sherlock (highly recommend that show if you haven’t seen it!) and he outdid himself here.

This was my Sunday morning breakfast. I’m trying to eat more “clean” meals these days, to balance out my love for sweets.

Case in point…this was my Tuesday afternoon lunch! On Tuesday both my brother and I were sick so we decided that totally justified Blizzards for lunch. It was pretty awesome.

Started Thursday off with a run at Green Lake.

My final moment for this week is courtesy of my little brother. If you haven’t heard of Vine, it’s an app that allows you to create 6-second videos. I thought this one was so funny. It features Mike and his guinea pig Gary. (You may need to un-mute by hovering over the top-left corner of the video.)

I hope you had a great week too!!

High Five for Friday – Family Edition

Friday, May 17th, 2013

It’s Friday time! I hope you have a good weekend ahead of you. I’m looking forward to Star Trek, catching up with friends, and taking a nap or two.

Here are five moments from the past week or so. The theme this time around is definitely family!

Last weekend I played some more Settlers of Catan with my sister and brother-in-law. Things are still looking bad for me…but I’m an optimist by nature and keep waiting for that moment when things turn around and I win 10 in a row. It could happen!

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day of course. I’m so grateful for my mom – she is the best listener and a prayer warrior.

Snapped this photo of my brother resting up on the drive home after our typical multi-dessert family gathering for Mother’s Day.

About two weeks ago our family friends Mike and Maren came to visit from Tulsa. It was so great having them with us. Mike and my dad have been friends for about 50 years. They talk so much alike – and it’s not even like one is copying the other. They’re just alike!

This final pic is not of family. But I just had to document the week of absolutely clear skies and sunny weather we experienced recently! It was gorgeous and refreshing. The clouds have rolled back in, but at least we had a glimpse of what’s to come for summer.

Have a great weekend!
